Home renovation is an exciting time, there is no doubt about that. But between the grand plans you have envisioned and the anticipation to get it done quickly, it can be easy to get ahead of yourself. That is why we have put together a few tips we think can help you, especially if you are new to the process. Because when it comes to renovating your home one thing is for sure, you want to get it right the first time!

When in doubt, write it down

There are a lot of details and decisions that go into a home renovation. It could be in the form of a checklist, a file binder or just a plain old notebook. Having a written plan can help organize important financial details, names and contact information of service providers or contractors, or anything else you do not want to forget. This home renovation checklist might give you handy ideas to create your own.

Have a timeline

When renovations are months in the making, it sometimes seems like there is no end in sight. However, having a timeline of each stage of your renovation will give you milestones that you can look forward to reaching. Not only does this help relieve concerns about progress, but it keeps you involved and aware of any hiccup that may arise. This can be as easy as putting dates on a calendar to setting up a timeline and notifications on your smartphone to remind you of important milestones.

Research before you hire

Finding service professionals that you can trust is the most important step in the home renovation process. Shopping around for quotes is not the only thing to think about when deciding on who to hire. Reading reviews and looking at previous work will help you find a reputable company. Do a test call with your top three and ask your most important questions. Take note of how you are treated, how complete the answers are and who seems too eager to offer helpful information. Do not forget to ask friends too, they may have some great recommendations.

Have junk removal plan

Especially if you are living at home while it is under remodel, it is important to have an exit plan for any and all debris that may come from your renovations. And you may be surprised at just how much junk even a small renovation can create! Some contracting companies include this service alongside the other remodeling services they provide, but not all do. If this is not explicitly stated, be sure to have someone standing by to help with your junk removal needs.  There might be a lot of work ahead of you, but once you get to see and enjoy your new home improvements, it will all be worth it. But in the meantime, if you decide you could use an extra hand moving boxes or hauling junk, give us a call!
